Session 63 of the 2019 season: Kitesurfing Harsens Island, solid 7M for 45 minutes

12:42 PM on Sunday, October 27, 2019
Kitesurfing Harsens Island, solid 7M for 45 minutes.
Gusting probably to 35-40 mph when I arrived. Keith getting his fill on a 9M, whoa!
This wasn’t in the forecast...waiting it out for a few and then rigging my 7M.
Launched in the slippery mud pit. Once on the water the 7M was perfect for me.
In fact it was surprisingly steady for the entire session. Gradually the wind was dwindling and after 45 minutes it wasn’t 7M any more.
Came in and was gonna rig the 9M but the wind speed crashed to 12M conditions and kept dropping from there. Oh well at least I got some decent TOW.
Just Keith and I with Jeff, Larry Windsurfing
Mostly Cloudy day probably near 50 degrees. WSW winds to 30 mph.

Gear: 7M with TT
Wind: Mostly west to 40mph
Weather: Cloudy, near 50 degrees
TOW: 1 hour

Session 62 of the 2019 season: Fun easy pleasy 7M Metrobeach session.

1:57 PM on Wednesday, October 23, 2019
Fun easy pleasy 7M Metrobeach session.
Probably the best 7M kite session at Metrobeach for me ever. Some gusts but not like yesterday. Some lighter wind holes but easy pleasy conditions for a SW (330 degrees) wind direction. Wind speed up to 35mph.
100% sunny, and in the 60s.
Jumping was tricky, never knew the outcome once you were in the air.
Definitely less organized swell and smaller in size then yesterday.
About a dozen kiters out on mostly 7M, some 9M earlier.
That’s 2 in a row for 7M at Metrobeach. Not sure if that’s happened before.

Gear:  7M with TT
Winds:
SW to 35mph
TOW:
1.5 hours

Session 61 of the 2019 season: Metrobeach Rodeo - Kitesurfing at 25-42 mph

11:46 AM on Tuesday, October 22, 2019
Metrobeach Rodeo - Kitesurfing at 25-42 mph (wind speed)
A survival course in gusty blasts of wind with the 7M and TT board.
Good side on SSW wind direction with 20 miles of fetch, but so gusty.
Slashing 4 foot swells generally resulted in engulfing oneself with a spray of cold water.
Jumping was unpredictable.
Made it work, all was fun and unusually sunny, warm, 60ish air temperatures, winds were SSW from 15 to 42mph.
About 20 kiters at the peak.

Gear:   7M with TT
Winds:
15-42 SSW
Weather:
Sunny, warm, mid-60s
TOW:

Session 60 of the 2019 season: Kitesurf Harsens Island (Not better late then never)

12:51 PM on Thursday, October 17, 2019
Kitesurf Harsens Island (Not better late then never)
Should of, could of arrived earlier.
Got there by noon and it was steady 9M conditions. I saw Craig and Mark at the slicks. The wind direction looked perfect for some slick action.
Hurriedly rig my gear, beelined to the slick with good solid 9M conditions.
Once there I saw Craig and Mark ripping it up. I joined them playing inside but the wind was lighter and holy. Craig signaled he was heading back, the wind had lightened.
I was able to make several runs through the slicks but every time the wind got flukier.
Better head back to the launch before it got to light.
Afterwards Craig mentioned that it was probably the best slick riding he had this year and when I arrived the wind lightened and change direction slightly.
So there you have it, spent most of my time getting upwind to the slicks and riding down wind back. Did have several runs in the slicks to make it worthwhile.
Craig, Tom on 9M, Mark, Keith on 12M.
Mostly sunny, near 50 degrees, NW winds 10-30 mph.

Gear:  9M with TT
Winds:
  NW 10-30 and dropping
Weather:
Mostly sunny, near 50 degrees

Session 59 of the 2019 season: Harsens Island Wild Rodeo

3:40 PM on Wednesday, October 16, 2019
Harsens Island Wild Rodeo
9M conditions to start. Rode upwind into the misty rain to the middle channel slicks.
Once there the rain stopped and the wind ramped up to 40 mph with very gusty conditions. Instantly I was way over my head with the wind speeds. Time to head back to revaluated my situation. Once back safely on land I decided to end the session for safety reasons.
Ugly conditions, thick clouds, misty rain and 45-49 degrees and west to west northwest winds.

Gear:  9M with TT
Winds: Up to 40 mph
Weather:  ugly, grey, misting, cold
TOW: 1.5 hours

Session 58 of the 2019 season: Metrobeach Kiteboarding, hanging on to summer

11:15 AM on Sunday, October 13, 2019
Metrobeach Kiteboarding, hanging on to summer
Started out light with the 11M and TT board. Took a lunch break, the wind picked up. So I rigged the 9M kite and that was a perfect combination. Waves were bigger, slashing and carving were better. Nice little shore-break to play in at the beach. Sweet lofty conditions most of the time.
Just an overall fun session, with 20 plus other kiters.
Mid-60s, a bluebird day, onshore south winds 15-30mph.

Gear: 11M down to 9M kite with TT
Winds: South 15-30 mph
Weather: Mid-60s, bluebird day
TOW: Started at 11:15 with 2 plus hours of running time,

Session 57 of the 2019 season: 10-6-19 Caseville

12:52 PM on Sunday, October 6, 2019
Caseville with steady 11M conditions
Steady WSW winds in the 20-25 mph range. Sunny, 60 degrees. 20-30 kiters on kite sizes from 9-14M.
Small swells and direction of wind made the point a fun spot for carving up some of the swells. With slicks inside the break wall. Lofting some big airs.
A fun 2 days on a row on Lake Huron...commuting more than 500 miles for sessions at Harbor Beach on Saturday and Caseville on Sunday.
2.5 hours of solid riding.

Gear: 11M with TT
Weather: Mostly sunny, 60ish
Winds: WSW 20-25mph

20-30 kiters at the peak

Session 56 of the 2019 season: New Venue, Harbor Beach

1:54 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2019   Harbor Beach Kiteboarding
We left Lexi and we made the right choice. Harbor Beach is 45 miles north of Lexi. Winds were 12-25 mph. While Lexi was much less.
Craig 9, Chris and Tom on 11s. Doug on a 17, yes that's right a 17.
We worked our way upwind to carve up some swells rolling in from the open water.
That's about it nothing to exciting.
Nice venue, nice beach, grassy rigging, parking 40 feet from the launch.
"The worlds greatest man made harbor” is what there welcome sign says. I would say worlds biggest harbor, it’s so big I didn’t even venture out of it.
Winds SE 12-25 mph, sunny, nearly 60 degrees.

Gear: 11M Naish with TT
Weather: sunny, nearly 60 degrees
Winds: Winds were mainly SE 12-25 mph.

Session 55 of the 2019 season: Lexington perhaps the best swell of the year here today

1:05 PM on Wednesday, October 2, 2019
Lexington session 1
A solid 11M session with the TT board.
Fairly calm seas, the slick was fully powered with the NE winds 15-25 mph.
Rode upwind and saw Brian foil surfing in front of the trailer park.
Shore break was practically on the beach there.
Keith, Craig, Jerry, Chris, Burke and myself on
9M to 11M kites.
Cloudy with scattered rain drops, mid-50s. Very fall like conditions.

4:13 PM on Wednesday, October 2, 2019
Lexington session 2
Another 11M session but should of been on my 9M.
Much windier for this session, NE to 32mph
Waves built up nicely, in fact probably one the best wave session here this year.
Cloudy and mid-50s, with some sprinkles.
3 hours plus total on the water today.
